What are the benefits of wind power compared to nuclear energy and which countries already use wind power?
Wind power- no chance of meltdown; less people to manage; no waster
Nuclear- more power; more efficient; more reliable; better overall

Hi Ashley,
First lets look at the drawbacks.
(1) Wind power isn't always cheap. In the long run it will pay off given you have a good wind site.
(2) You need a good wind site.

There are downsides to windgenerators: disturbance to wildlife, especially birds, visual intrusion, noise, access roads.
But compared to, say a coal station, these are minimal and can be mitigated against by carefull planning, eg don't

Solar panels are not as "Eco friendly" as you may think. Solar panels are a semi conductor type device as as such the manufacturing process generates lots of Hazardous Waste that need to be disposed of.

Experts: Iowa's wind farm growth will slow in the coming year
Iowa is one of the top wind-energy producers in the nation, but that may change in 2012.
According to the American Wind Energy Association, Iowa was third in the nation for new wind-power installations, with 646.7 megawatts of wind energy and 282 new turbines constructed in 2011.
"This shows that traditional tax incentives are working," said American Wind Energy Association CEO Denise Bode in a press release. "In hard economic times, we're creating jobs and delivering clean, affordable electricity."
However, she warned of the coming end to the federal production tax credit, which provides American energy producers with tax incentives to build and expand their wind-farm operations.

There can be many answers to that question or loaded question but overall wind energy does need to be taken very seriously along with all sources of renewable energy. The main argument for wind power seems to always center around climate change and global warming. There are many good articles on global warming which I will leave it up to you to read, as I am not saying that global warming exists or not. While yes many days we here especially in the Midwest including Nebraska and Iowa can walk outside and say I thought there was supposed to be global warming and make some people laugh, but evidence suggests that it is happening. Maybe this warming can be attributed to just the history of the earth as it seems the way the earth exists is constantly changing including the temperature, but if it is us that is causing it, even without concrete evidence, should we not try to change how we live? This seems to be the argument that is driving the environmentalists to say that wind energy is a good thing. So what about the naysayers that global warming does not exist. Right now there are 6 billion people on our planet, of which about 4 billion use electricity. By the year 2050 there are predicted to be about 9 billion people on the planet and almost 100% will have electricity available to them. That means that we have to more than double our energy production worldwide. If fossil fuels were the only source of electricity energy would become very expensive very fast and we would probably run out of resources. Therefore all renewable energy resources are necessary not just wind. To further the argument China and India are the two countries with the largest population and they both continue to add new electric generation all the time which includes coal generation. Coal is becoming a much more scarce resource and the price will begin to climb. So why is wind energy the renewable energy production tool used most these days when the wind is intermittent and it cannot add much electricity to the baseload needed? Wind right now is the cheapest form of renewable energy and actually competes right on par with new coal generation. Wind has no fuel costs along with solar. Other renewable energy generation such as hydropower requires a close proximity to water. Solar energy is actually the best partner with wind because it produces power when the peak demand is high but it is much more expensive to install and takes up a large amount of room. Nuclear used to be the renewable energy generation of choice and still can be a viable option but it does create nuclear waste that is very difficult to dispose of and can cause accidents on a colossal scale. Technology continues to improve on all renewable energy resources but for now wind seems to be the cheapest and quickest way to take up little amounts of land and add renewable energy. In closing, renewable energy generation is important whether you believe in global warming or not. Wind is just one piece of the puzzle and the world is working hard to find a way to make all renewable energy generation cheaper and more efficient to put in place. So what is the next step? Find a way to store the energy created by wind and also to transport it to where the energy is needed on the coasts.
