Hi I want to power a 5000 btu window airconditioner with a solar panel. I know very little about solar energy so i was wondering what size of a solar panel i would need . Would I need whats called an inverter or a power pack I have been looking at...


A 5000 BTU air conditioner, even a high efficiency one,
will draw about 750 W. running.
Figure at least 50% duty cycle, and you need 375 W./Hr. to run your A.C. unit for one hour.

Solar Power in place of Battery Pack?

I have a 7.2v 1100 nimh battery pack. I want to power the motor with solar cells. Should I use five 1.5V 135mA cells or seven 1.0V 415mA cells? Thanks for any input you might have.


what is "nimh"? I suspect "1100" is mA-hour, and that is a battery capacity, not a current.

You need to know the current drain of the motor. If it is 1 amp, for example, the battery pack will operate the motor...
