Solar Power Aircraft

Answers

can solar power be fitted into an aircraft to reduce gas emissions by 50%?

The cost behind creating a exactly 50% hybrid would be immense and unrealistic. The smartest airplane right now is the 787 and it is 20% better for the planet. We need to first see how well this airplane will do on the market and then latwer se if we

how much of electric power(quantity) would be required to propell 600kg solar aircraft ?

-the aircraft should be able to attain a max velocity of 30kh/hr
-how much of battery voltage is required for propelling the aircraft

Lift=1/2XdensityXsquare of SpeedXSurface area of Wings
Lift has to balance weight and thrust has to balance drag. Drag has been explained above, cleaner is the aircraft (Parasite drag, minimised) lesser is the thrust required.

Accurate & precise - 0.01 A current and 0.01 V voltage resolutions. Connector to use a receiver battery for measurement down to 0 V
Uses DSP to increase ADC resolution and differential measurement amplifiers to increase noise immunity Factory calibration stores constants in EEPROM to compensate for component tolerances
Acts like a wire so doesn't affect model's performance. Precision current sensing resistor, with only 0.001 Ohm resistance and circuitry only draws 0.007 Amps

Could Solar Power Be Used In Aircrafts?

Right now, solar efficency is around 30-40%. So as technology increases, and this % increases to 90+%, could it be a reasonable source? I am not talking about having Boeing 747's run off of them, just like small Cessna's. Keep in mind, that...

Who really cares why the earth is warming ? We know that it is and this you can not deny.?

What we do about it is up to us . Since 80% of the water that we need to live is used for agriculture And the other 20% on showers and laundry , dishes and washing our car's we may want to consider converting salt water into fresh water .
So

But if we know why, it gives us a better chance of doing something about it. You certainly make a lot of broad statements without any facts to back them up. Do you understand anything about the effect of salt water on land? How do you suggest...

Would this idea be feasible?

The idea is to have a solar-powered aircraft electrolyse water vapour collected from the atmosphere, and compress it into rocket fuel to launch a rocket at high altitude.

The benefits this would bring would be the various ones from...

It is technically feasible but technologically indefensible. It would be far cheaper to get the hydrogen and oxygen and com[press at ground level and transport it up in the aircraft (balloon or whatever).
There is no patentable idea or novelty

  • San Francisco plans major renewable electricity push

For the City of San Francisco’s CCA service by 2017, while maintaining competitive utility bills.

Local Power will prepare the RFP after completing a cost model, deployment schedule, and documentation of potential renewable energy development sites.

“San Francisco has long been the vanguard of Local Power’s vision of green municipal public works and community control of energy,” says Paul Fenn, Founder and President of Local Power.

"The SFPUC ’s recent Notice-To-Proceed to Local Power Inc. tasks us with making this vision Shovel-Ready, analysing and mapping detailed data, surveying and polling energy use, designing the localisation roll-out and conceptual process, finalising a financial model and scaling projects accordingly, and preparing term sheets and a bundle of RFPs for issuance in late 2012. This work promises to make San Francisco the world leader in green power, substantially reducing greenhouse gas pollution, and making innovative green technologies the standard rather than the exception, and creating new local green jobs here in San Francisco – all while maintaining competitive power bills.”

USA: NASA Dryden Fact Sheet – Pathfinder Solar-Powered Aircraft ...

At the NASA Dryden Flight Research Center at Edwards, Calif., imagination has become reality, and that reality is the Pathfinder solar-powered, remotely piloted aircraft.

    Aircraft Description

The Pathfinder is a lightweight, solar-powered, remotely piloted flying wing aircraft that is demonstrating the technology of applying solar power for long-duration, high-altitude flight. It is literally the pathfinder for a future fleet of solar-powered aircraft that could stay airborne for weeks or months on scientific sampling and imaging missions.

Solar arrays covering most of the upper wing surface provide power for the aircraft’s electric motors, avionics, communications and other electronic systems. Pathfinder also has a backup battery system that can provide power for between two and five hours to allow limited-duration flight after dark.
