The easiest way to power a lightbulb with a solar panel is to keep everything at DC voltage. Get a 12V solar panel, a 12V battery, and a 12V lightbulb. I'm trying to put together an inexpensive solution below.

Of course, night lights can only be powered by solar by having batteries to hold the power from day to night. Practically, that means using standard 12 volt panels with a charging regulator. The solar panel is rated in watts, but the amount of sun

How can i connect multiple .5 volt solar panels together to power an LED?
I gave the two blue ones away as door prizes at the DIY meetup the next day

I have created a solar panel made from copper and aluminum that produces .5 volts. I would like to connect multiple panels and power an LED or something similar. Thanks.

connecting them in series should give you the same amps, but boost your voltage. Most LEDs run on 1.5-3volts.

How can I power LED light strings with a solar panel?
The energy of the sun, collected in jars!

I'm interested in purchasing some LED icicle-style light strings to go around the house and was thinking it would be nice if they were solar powered to cut back even more on energy consumption. I've seen icicle-style LED strings with a regular a/c...

Those LED lights use so little power, I'm afraid there is not much to be saved by powering them off solar. If solar was all you had, then it might be worth tinkering, but I'd say just plug them in to the wall, and if you're not using them, turn them

How much solar power do i need to power an led bulb?
Spare parts, what to do with them!

It depends on the type of LED you are using (voltage, colour of light, etc.) You should figure on about 0.05W for each LED you want to use, but check the data sheet for the LED first.

Most solar systems have a battery that is...

Will a voltage or current regulator be useful in a solar powered LED circuit?
Really, there weren't many construction photos to take, but here's the garden lamp guts being epoxied to the jar lids

I want to make a circuit consisting of multiple LEDs that will be solar powered. Will a voltage or current regulator be useful? What else will be useful in the circuit besides resistors?

A VR is useful if you expect greater-than-design voltage at the source - and your circuit is sensitive to over-voltage. Otherwise it is not necessary. For instance if your solar panel will deliver 12V at 1A, and all you need is 6V at 0.5A, you...

  • Irish-led consortium shines in renewable energy programme

A CONSORTIUM led by Irish renewable energy developer Mainstream Renewable Power is one of the biggest winners in the government’s continuing renewable energy procurement programme.

The Department of Energy yesterday released the names of its preferred bidders under the programme, through which it wants to procure a total of 3725MW of renewable energy capacity from independent power producers. Mainstream, which has partnered with local renewable energy developer Genesis Eco-Energy, has been awarded 238MW in the first round of the programme.

From the first phase of the bidding process, which closed last month, the department received 53 bids amounting to 2128MW for wind, solar photovoltaic (PV), concentrated solar power (CSP) and small hydro. The evaluation resulted in 28 bids with a total account for 1416MW being selected, of which 631,53MW is for solar PV, 150MW solar CSP and 633,99MW wind.
