FPL parent NextEra Energy reports 4th quarter earnings growth
&Mdash; NextEra Energy Inc. (NYSE: NEE) and its utility subsidiary Florida Power & Light Co. today reported substantial fourth quarter earnings growth, largely driven by increased investments in cleaner energy at the utility, company officials said.
In addition, FPL, with 4.6 million customer accounts, has 25,000 more customers than a year ago, as customer growth has increased half a percent for the past six quarters due to Florida's slowly improving economy.
FPL's fourth-quarter 2011 retail sales of electricity declined by 2.7 percent from the prior-year comparable quarter, due primarily to milder weather. Excluding the impact of warmer weather, underlying usage rose 1.2 percent during the quarter.
NewNet News - NASA and Florida Power & Light collaborate on space ...
US space organisation NASA and Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) have formed a public-private partnership to commission a solar photovoltaic plant at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
‘NASA is a pioneer in the use of solar power for space exploration, so it’s fitting that we’re working with FPL to expand the use and R&D of that renewable energy source at Kennedy Space Center where many of those missions were launched,’ said Robert Cabana, director of the Kennedy Space Center.
The partnership with NASA will provide the US space programme as well as Florida residents with solar power, added Cabana. Located on NASA property at Kennedy Space Center, the output of the Space Coast Next Generation Solar Energy Center is currently estimated at 10MW.
