I've been following the presidential race closely wanting to see who would put the most into updating the grid (My winner was Obama)

Try "over the counter" at one of the local brokerages. There are a lot of panel producers out their you might research the ownership ond their suppilers ownership and see if you can find a connect a dot political resource in the up line...

Ausra: a presentation about Ausra's solar thermal technology

Ausra specializes in producing renewable energy through solar thermal power generation. Ausra designs, manufactures, installs, and operates solar ...

What do you make of Areva (largest maker of nuclear reactors) buying Ausra (solar thermal manufacturer)?

"Areva SA of France predicts the global use of solar-thermal power will grow by about 30-fold this decade, a forecast that spurred the world’s largest maker of nuclear reactors to buy a California-based equipment maker."

Yes I saw this. I have had my eye on Siemens, they are diversifying like mad over last few years, and Areva have fingers in many pies too, they own energy companies here in U.K.

The turbines for our wind farm were made by Siemens...

If you have been told that 92 acres of solar panels can power the entire country you have been fed a bill of goods. It will take more than 92 acres worth, a lot more, maybe 920 sqare miles worth, that is closer to 620,000 acres. But, yeh, 92...

I've been following the presidential race closely wanting to see who would put the most into updating the grid (My winner was Obama) but anyway Ausra is a private company located in my home town of Las Vegas I wan't to invest in this company It would

The generally accepted value of solar energy hitting the earth is 1000 W/m². That's 1 kW per square meter.

92 acres is 372,307 square meters. At 100 percent efficiency, this can provide 372,307 kW or 372 MW.

Why we won't need coal

, Rather than just merely talking about it, as they are doing in Durban this fortnight.

The coal industry laughed, suggesting such a scenario was highly unlikely. But what if technology took the decision out of the hands of politicians, as seems increasingly likely with the plunging costs of renewables, particularly solar PV, across the globe? And what does that mean also for Australia's energy infrastructure, and the tens of billions of dollars that will be invested in the coming decade on the basis that business will continue as usual?

New forecasts from China suggest the cost of solar PV in that country will fall below that of coal-fired generation within 10 years. From that point, or even before, says Wu Dacheng, the vice chairman and secretary general of the China Photovoltaic Society, the country's energy build out will be dominated by cheaper renewables.

It takes the sting out of the up front cost of installing solar. This is also happening on a corporate level, with companies like Morgan Stanley setting up financing and power purchase agreements for corporations and other large businesses to install solar panels.

Power purchase agreements are how power companies in California, Nevada and Arizona are contracting for solar thermal power plants in the southwest. These PPAs are a very positive move in the right direction.

Here’s what’s happening on the cutting edge of thin film solar cells and panels

"Nanosolar’s founder and chief executive, Martin Roscheisen, claims to be the first solar panel manufacturer to be able to profitably sell solar panels for less than $1 a watt. That is the price at which solar energy becomes less expensive than coal."
