In this article, I am going to talk about what each part of a solar power system does, and what role the piece plays in the system. Every component handles a particular role, though you don’t need every part in every solar project. A typical solar power system generates electricity, stores the electricity in batteries to be used later and then changes the Direct Current electricity from the batteries to the same type of Alternating Current electricity that comes out of the wall sockets in your home.
Solar Panels
The first part of a solar power system is the solar panels, which generate electricity using energy from the sun. Sunlight, in the form of photons, strikes the panel, which knocks loose electrons from a layer of silicon. These electrons become electricity and are sent through wires. Many solar cells, each of which generates about 1/2 volt are put together to make a single solar panel. It is possible to generate any voltage by putting together the proper number of solar cells.
