Savings realized after solar shingle installation

The Hall family learned to better manage their energy use after winning a new Dow Powerhouse Solar Shingle system for their Saginaw Township home in an employee contest at The Dow Chemical Co.

Ken and Melissa Hall, both Dow employees, said having the shingles makes them feel good because they knows their family is adding less pollution to the world. Their 2-year-old twins, Matt and Elise, played a starring role in the video Ken submitted as part of the "Power to Our People" employee contest.

"I'm always now stressing to my family members they need to manage usage as a leaking faucet," Ken said. "It's something people don't think of."

He made the video in the fall of 2010 and in February learned his family won along with two others from Texas and Louisiana. The installation took place in June, bringing new energy to the three bedroom house they purchased on Green Meadow Drive in 2003.

There are many new smaller solar tile that work in the same way (Sole, Sunslates, Eagle green) to name a few. These all connect under the shingles without penetrating the roof deck. The difference between my idea and these are, the wind rating from the metal shingle, and the idea that the dummy shingles match EXACTLY, not just have the same profile, not just can be integrated, but exactly so one can not tell one from the other after installation.

There is a difference. I have been involved in the construction industry for 30 years and most solar shingle products pass wires through to the attic so that connections are accessible. Your product will never meet NEC code requirements for accessible connections.
