The chalcogenide semiconductors (e.g., CuGaSe2, AgInTe2, etc.) have lower melting points relative to their band gaps than the binary compound semiconductors (e.g., CdTe) or, even more so, the elementary semiconductors (e.g., Si.)
This can...

  • Making Better Optical Fibers by Adding Silicon

Optical fibers are used in many applications currently, including telecommunications, and an advance from Penn State should expand the capabilities of the technology. Scientists have been struggling to find a way to get hydrogenated amorphous silicon into the small opening of long optical fibers.

Hydrogenated amorphous silicon is a special kind of silicon that is without a crystal structure and is used in things like solar panels. To make it one starts with silane, a combination of silicon and hydrogen, which decomposes into amorphous silicon via a plasma reactor. As amorphous silicon cannot be deposited onto the inner walls of the optical fiber, the researchers developed a method to inject the silane into the fibers and then convert it to amorphous silicon.

Green Energy ? Solar, the sun

In most people’s minds, fujitsu T4220 Battery electricity is a clean source of energy when using lamps, televisions, refrigerators, air conditioners and other appliances, perhaps we did not realize the power of the damage to the environment, the actual coal-fired power generation on the environment damage is significant. China is now the world’s No. powers of greenhouse gas emissions, while the conventional electricity production using coal, oil, natural gas, power generation, has become China’s carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, one of the major sources of emissions, but also a large number of coal-burning emissions of harmful gases such as sulfur dioxide . When we use conventional electricity, we are in fact an indirect polluters, because we only created the demand for electricity supply, and thus indirectly on the environment caused by pollution. At the same time we are also victims of pollution.
