So I was thinking of making a mini portable solar panel powered radio for my science fair project.But I don't have any idea of how to get started with this.

Here are some of the requirements I need for this radio . . ....

Find a small portable radio - Radio Shack has some nice ones with potential. Your best bet are the ones powered by two penlight batteries, since you're power consumption requirements are small.

It would be great to charge when I am camping and stuff. Also I don't mind getting my
Hands dirty so if I can make it out of stuff from radio shack or something that would be great too

Also, most solar panels can convert to 12V, so you can hook up a car charger to it if you need.

I know I can buy a gizmo that will let me recharge my cell phone battery but I'm looking for a "renewable"/solar powered device that will do that so I could go on extended trips to a remote area that might not have electric or 110...

You will never charge your cell phone from a 12 dollar solar panel. Well maybe you can if you leave it hooked up for three of four days or longer.
