they both charge a 12v or bank of 12v batteries? i have built my turbine but confused on what controller to use?thanks
lets start with basics
the solar power supplies DC and it is running all morning, the power it supplies not as much as the wind turbine so the controller and the power it supplies mostly constant becasue the sun changes slowly
This demonstrates perfectly the operation of a custom charge controller I designed and built to take up to 32 volts at 6 amps to still charge a ...
It shouldn't matter - as long as the ratings for input meet the controllers recommended ratings.
So yes, generally it should work.
Works with wind turbines, solar panels and hydro generators
100% solid state controller (no mechanical relays or solenoids)
Pulse width modulated (PWM) controlled
when turbine is running light is flashing and should charge the battery i not sure if it should be flashing or just lit .i got solar/wind hybrid controller /turbine 12v 450-500w max./and if i not use the energy after 5 or 6 days battery is...
Dont know about the flashing light, if you tell us what make of controler you have we/you could find that in the users manual.
5 to 6 days to empty an unused battery means you have a dead battery, if the controller can do that in 5...
Compatible with 12 and 24 volt battery banks (Charging/dumping voltage setting are user settable)
Works with wind turbines, solar panels and hydro generators
2 year warranty
i have a a wind and solar energy hybrid controller for my small 12V wind turbine, please can some one tell me do i connect inverter to this controller where it says 'output' or what?? becuase i dont know what this last 'output' plugs are for?????...
The output side is where the power comes out so that is where you'd connect the inverter.
I have an ~18v solar panel and a ~15v wind turbine. Sometimes one generates more voltage than the other. How would I get both of them to charge one ~12v battery? I can't just connect them in parallel with diodes, because in that case, only the higher
Placing diodes in series with each source to the battery would solve your problem. You should use a charge controller on the system to prevent overcharging the battery.
I've put together a relatively simple dump load circuit which diverts...
I am looking for some good information on setting up a system that uses solar panels and a wind generator. My basic question is with the charge controller. Can I regulate the charging from both sources using the same charge controller? I'm looking
Usually one would use either solar or wind, but not both. If you have good wind, it will be cheaper than photovoltaic.
I don't know if there is such a dual-input controller as you're looking for. You might try asking on the NAWS...

GM Releases Smart Grid APIs for Chevy Volt, via OnStar
Those plug-ins charge. Plug too many in during hot summer afternoons, and they’ll crash the grid or require massive new peak generation to handle. Plug them in at night, on the other hand, and they can capture cheap off-peak power, as well as wind turbines’ nightly surplus , which saves money for customers and utilities both.
That’s a fairly simple thing to program into cars or charging stations, and will likely be among the first applications beyond straight metering that utilities will provide. Pacific Gas & Electric has been testing out basic remote on-off switching in fleet vehicles with Silver Spring Networks and car chargers from Clipper Creek and Coulomb Technologies. In Austin, Texas, the Pecan Street Project is trying to tie 100 plug-in Volts to smart grid and rooftop solar systems to balance one neighborhood’s power grid.
What kind of solar panels are best and what method of storing ...
The solar panels that are "best" are going to be the ones that fit your needs. Since you havn’t explained them it is a bit difficult. Solar photovoltaic panels make electricity. There are many different types. (I recently saw information about tube photovoltaic collectors being installed over a greenhouse.)
Solar thermal panels make heat from sunlight but come in 3 major flavors: Solar air panels, solar thermal (water based medium) panels and vacuum tube collectors (often based upon phase change materials) Sometimes a distinction is made between vacuum tube collectors and "flat panel collectors" The cheapest collector will be the one you make yourself, but depending upon your skill level it may not be as effective.
