Amp Charge Controller

I am experimenting and I am considering getting a 30 Watt panel which puts out 1.8 Amps and I found an inexpensive charge controller rated for 5 Amps.

Will the 1.8 max output of the panel be too little for the 5 Amp charge...

You should not have a problem with this. The controller will disconnect the battery when it is fully charged and leave it disconnected until the battery voltage drops.

It is not good for the battery to be disconnected from the controller while the panels are putting out power to the controller. It is recommend not to do it.

I doubt as I think that is too little ampherage to worry about overcharging the battery.

Hopefully it has a built in blocking diode to prevent draining the battery back through the panel at night.

Charge controllers that are meant for Solar charging are significantly different to Battery Chargers meant to be used on AC. I suggest using an Automatic battery charger and adding a Solar charger controller at a later date.

Read the manual for your controller, which I assume is a charge controller. The better ones use a switch mode regulator so they operate over a wide range of input voltages and output voltages.

A good charge controller includes a DC-Dc converter which changes your output voltage to that best suitable for charging the battery. It's second purpose is to control the current to the battery to avoid overcharging it.
