No - the controller would try to overcharge the battery, exactly what the controller is meant to avoid. You could charge two 12 volt batteries in series though.

Read the manual for your controller, which I assume is a charge controller. The better ones use a switch mode regulator so they operate over a wide range of input voltages and output voltages.

It is not good for the battery to be disconnected from the controller while the panels are putting out power to the controller. It is recommend not to do it.

use your lead acid battery as the main charger
1 battery gives you 12v
2 batteries gives you 24v ( connect the battery in series of course)
now how to make the voltage drop to suit your required voltage? use high wattage...
